At the SOBEWFF…
One of the best food and wine festivals is just around the corner, the 22nd annual SOBEWFF hits the South Beach shores, restaurants and venues Feb 22-25. And the best event representing Napa is Peter Mondavi Jr’s tasting event on Sat Feb 24 at 4 pm at the Eden Roc in Miami Beach along with Bruce Sanders of Wine Spectator as they lead the crowd thru 6 wines of the Charles Krug Estate and their 2021 and 2022 vintages.
Sounds great, and apparently a lot of other people agree, as alas, the event is already sold out. But if you want a little of that Mondavi magic, the Insider was lucky enough to catch up with the fourth generation of winemakers in the Mondavi tree, Angelina Mondavi who was hosting a sold out Library dinner at their Charles Krug estate, late last fall. She had just finished putting the latest Mondavi wine to rest and was happy to do the NSI quiz. Cheers!
What was last night’s dinner? A chicken pasta with a glass of champagne as we were celebrating the last day of harvest.
What’s your fav music? All kinds. I can listen to country, hip hop, rock n’ roll.. just as long as it’s good.
What’s your fav drink? A whisky sour, sometimes known as a Middle Steuben’s Scotch with egg white.
What’s your favorite thing about living and working in Napa? Are you kidding? Just the vibrancy, the colors and sensations you get here on a daily basis is fantastic.
What makes a great wine tasting experience? Just ensuring each client loves the wine and making their tasting great on a day to day basis. We’re all about creating a legacy, it’s a true love and a lot of fun.
Any brush with celebrity? We’ve had some players from the Portland Trail Blazers and Milwaukee Bucks thru here and the guy who played Damian Mallard on the Walking Dead. (Charles Davis)
Any restaurant, wine or trip on your bucket list? I was booked for a dinner at Single Thread in Sonoma when Covid shut that down, so will still like to do it and I’d love to do some fly fishing in the Amazon some day.
Final thoughts? Just like to say, being one of the oldest wineries in Napa comes with a lot of responsibility and legacy and something we don’t take lightly. But we still try to have a lot of fun as well, both for our staff and our clients.
