Notes from the 10th Pebble Beach Food and Wine Fest…

Thurs night was a total blast with great food snacks and awesome after party where the booze was flowing like water…

Friday afternoon, a return to The Inn at Spanish Bay, where gorgeous fairways and greens line right up with the Pacific Ocean… so gorgeous, it made me even consider playing a round for a nanosecond.. ha ha… I hate golf. But as a smart guy once said to me, golf courses offer some of the most spectacular scenery in the world… a course in Whistler, BC is equally spectacular…

Later that afternoon, I attend the burgers and wine event where I asked Chef Michael Fiorelli, isn’t a burger better flame grilled than flat grilled? It’s one of the reasons why I prefer Burger King over McDonald’s or sacrilege here in CA, In N’ Out… Gawd are their fries awful!!

Fiorelli politely disagreed with me, said a flat grilled burger retains more of its fat and taste, not overwhelmed by a flame, something I had never considered before. But sorry, I still prefer a flame charred burger.

Fiorelli from the restaurant in Manhattan Beach, Love & Salt, told a hilarious tale about how he fought like hell to keep a burger off his menu to ultimately acquiescing when Food & Wine gave him one of the best 10 burgers in the U.S.

Sat afternoon’s Grand Tasting was a fine event as well. It was obvious, unlike a lot of food and wine festivals, the PB Event tries to get as many of the best wine and food purveyors as possible. Tons of champagne, excellent wines, both white and red, gals handing out fruit, several chefs doing pork belly… yum!!! Just a fun, delightful, delicious treat. See ya next year Dave!!!
